The Jersey (Ball Point) needle has a rounded, semi-spherical ball point whose diameter is approximately 20% of the blade's diameter. These needles are designed to alleviate making holes in knit or loosely woven materials. The rounded tip slips between yarns rather than piercing them.
Uses: Knit and stretchy fabrics such as spandex and Lycra.
A universal is sometimes better for finer knits.
